Runoff Resonance
Runoff Resonance asks what it means to look at a lake through its own material memory, to let the water mediate and distort. This work in development builds on the methodology of Rusty Resonance, in which I filmed through the material of the land itself. For this work, I extend that logic to water.
The nutrient flows that Dr. Metson (SRM Lab, Western University) traces quantitatively in her research are made felt here through colour, density, and light. Cyanobacteria toxicity tests in the lab (August 2026) revealed unsafe algae samples from Lake Erie, so alternate algae was used for the first iteration. The project remains in development, with hopes of sourcing less toxic samples for colour going forward.
Colour carries history and communicates what other registers cannot. I believe colour can be felt before it is understood. Collected algae was processed and applied to glass, filtering observational drawings through the living matter, obscuring clarity.
